My problem was that every GUI program that wanted root access asked for the root password instead of the user's password.
As an infosec analyst of eons gone by, that is bass ackwards.
If I have to stop and trigger a program through sudo (and futz with xhost +) every time I want to do something like configure a printer, I'll lose my marbles.
