A few tips:
Mastodon has it's own culture and ways of doing things just like where you came from. Don't expect it to be just like where you were, and you'll be fine.
There is no algorithm. So BOOSTING (re-blogging) is the only way to get content seen by others. It is HIGHLY encouraged.
To find people to follow, search for relevant hashtags or browse the Local or Federated timelines.
