it's funny, because whenever i ride with drivers in Oslo, especially ones who aren't used to driving there, it's always a complete nightmare for them. the city is old and wasn't designed around cars at all. i can move much more freely here when i walk, bike or ride public transportation. and i can usually get off closer to the place i want to go than the nearest parking space, which usually takes ages to find. the city isn't built like an American city (a giant parking lot + roads) and large numbers of people don't even own a car. at the outskirts of the city and more into the countryside, it's the complete opposite. everything's further apart and what infrastructure exists was built sometime in the 50s and 60s when cars were seen as the future, so it makes more sense to keep those places that way. but in a place like central Oslo, i'm less convinced. it doesn't make sense to give the cars even more room, if that's even possible.
