I bought my 8yo a used bicycle the other day, to replace the one she has outgrown.
The new bike has hand-brakes and 6 gears. And a kick-stand!
Suddenly I understand why kid bikes have foot-brakes. The grip strength required to squeeze yourself to a halt is non-trivial! She's not really ready.
But she's still too big for the old bike, so I spent over an hour yesterday adjusting the brakes to make them easier for her to use. I think I succeeded, a bit?
Now I understand bike brakes! #dadtoot
