The case against cronyism.
Missouri has the odd distinction of having more corporate tax credits, per capita, than any state in the union (I believe we used to have the highest total amount as well, but may have been usurped by CA and a couple other larger states).
At the moment, $600 million is spent each year, taking our taxes and giving it to companies that are well-connected to politicians. This amount does not include local "incentives."
One could say that Missouri has one of the most centrally planned economies in the nation. Each subsidy comes with the promise of more jobs and greater economic development.
And yet, we never see it.
Our newest jobs report was recent released. Missouri gained 10,700 new jobs from January of '24 to January of '25.
This is a .3% increase, far below the national average.
If you hear a politician say we need a tax credit or subsidy to help a private business, please know they are 100% corrupt. They will steal from you yo enrich themselves and their friends. These policies are the enemy
