Because Internet news became more convenient. A wide variety of information at the palm of their hands.
In this case, Twitter is more convenient because they have more people who they know over there. Also there are a lot of competitors who are basically building the same decentralised social protocol, like lens protocol. Even something as amazing as Reddit has a niche user base(I think).
