You can search for a community directly within Mastodon web UI or your mobile client of choice via (at)communityname(at)lemmyinstance which will bring up the list of threads you can peruse and reply to directly within Mastodon.
You can also search a post URL within Mastodon (web UI for sure) and then reply directly to a post or a comment that way.
