I believe there's something really interesting going on with the replacement of phone + coax with a more complex, laser-powered dedicated “data" line (fiber-optic cables).
I doubt anyone on here would say that they would actually like to switch fiber for phone + coax. And yet, at least on paper, fiber is a way more complex piece of technology. We're literally trading away something simpler for something more complex, and we like it. Why is that?
