I’ve not used it either (for the same reason) but I read about comptime from Mitchell’s blog https://mitchellh.com/writing/zig-comptime-conditional-disable.

Coming from Ruby, I miss being able to write Ruby that writes Ruby in any context. I don’t necessarily need that level of flexibility, but proc macros seem both ubiquitous and like a weird escape valve pseudo language within a language.
