Catholicism is one thing, the Catholic Church another one. Catholicism is a set of ideas that include ideas about being merciful and compassionate. The Catholic Church is an institution that has decades of corruption and bureaucratization, that covers up for pedophilia and other abuses among its ranks. An institution so rotted that not only a "good Pope" can't change it, it'll never allow for a meaningfully "good" Pope to be elected.
