I feel this!! The problem right now is that Nostr is structured in a way that forces people to follow individuals (like Twitter), as opposed to communities centered around a specific topic (like Reddit). Although following individuals is nice, I hope to see a future on Nostr where people can more easily connect to relays that are focused on specific topics as well as follow individuals. This may lead to better feeds, or at least ways to filter out relays that you want to ignore for the time being. I follow hashtags but it's not ideal right now. Improving the search function may also help with this.

I too feel compelled to filter out content for my mental well-being. Hopefully as more people voice their concerns then adjustments will be made. ♥️
