Unpopular opinion time: I don't think you can work in vet med if you hate *ANY* pet.

I used to think that there were so many different avenues in vet med that nearly anyone could find their niche. There are exotic vets, farm vets, lab positions, sales reps, etc etc.

I have heard techs that disliked certain dogs going into large animal practice (think horses, cows, etc). Issue is, these farmers tend to not only have dogs, but have them loose. She got scared of the farmer's working dog and slammed it in the head.

I have also had a friend that worked cat only, tell many clients that they should get rid of their dogs.

Most recently, it was a bird-only vet tech that insinuated an owner should kill or get rid of their pet snake.

As vet techs, we are ambassadors not just for our patients but for all animals, and for our clients. We can't be putting such a huge fucking bias in the way of our practice. I think hating something, wanting animals banned, wanting something to not exist, doesn't just make it hard to put opinions aside for your client; I genuinely think it makes it impossible. And I think vet techs that DO hate any pet, needs to throw in the fucking towel because they do more harm than good.
