In reading this latest opinion piece in the Chronicle bemoaning the state of City bureaucracy, it may be helpful to bear in mind who's speaking.
The Independent Institute in Oakland is also part of the libertarian think-tank phenomenon. Some of their past positions have included
- arguing that "the real danger to American high technology leadership is a too powerful, too intrusive government"
- agreeing that there are climate concerns but proposing strong private property and free market solutions rather than regulation as the solution
[private property and free market are the solutions for everything for groups like this]
- pro-tobacco junk science work
