Many years ago, when I was in #law #school, we students were encouraged to join clinics, led by professors and run by students, specialising in representing indigent clients who could not afford legal representation in myriad potholes of life: immigration, discrimination, patents, the lot.
The way I see it, this "help those who can't help themselves" #philosophy is essential in all fields of human endeavour, including #STEM fields.
