or if you lie by greatly embellishing something that maybe sort-of happened, that's a tall tale and they're fun
if you do it on a stage, on a set or in a studio, that's acting
i guess you can also put lies on paper for money or just for fun, that's called fiction writing
and if you get really good at convincing people they need something they definitely don't, that's advertising
