I'm suspicious of many of the renderings of what astroid impacts on Earth would look like from space. In particular those that show a large plume rising above the atmosphere seem... off.

Have any of you encountered anyone breaking down what such impacts might really look like?

Are there any stand-out renderings from documentaries or movies that get it right?
