Sportives are money-making circuses. For example, to enter the Dartmoor Classic for 2024 (early-bird prices!) is £60 for a ride of just over 60 miles.
I did a similar distance Audax and that cost me £8!
On a sportive, you're mixing with a lot of pretentious types (I've a story about that in a bit) while on an Audax, you get to speak with many genuinely nice and supportive people. Seriously, the Audax crowd is so much nicer!
