I don't have an inside view from your academia, so I can't really comment on that, but what I see online is people trying to dismiss the theses of such people based on their moral character and this is unacceptable to me. Often they try to say someone who isn't immoral said the same thing, but this is rarely true. Kant, Heidegger and Hume are good examples; Hume for me personally since I both dislike him but find useful what he said. 1/2
