Y'know, for how terrible it is, I still think the North American electrical grid is kinda clever. I like that we have 120V running through our walls instead of 240V, but we can also easily bridge our electrical boxes with a double breaker if we need 240V for appliances. That's just cool to me.
The NEMA plug/receptacle is obviously a garbage dumpsterfire, but at least getting a zap from it *usually* just results in an unpleasant experience and not a deadly one.
Also shout-out to Chicago for mandating that our wires be run in conduit. Need a ground? Just ground directly on the conduit back to the electrical box.
