The paradox of healthy eating is that the problem is often a lack of the correct calories. Often insufficient protein. Wheat, potato and rice are often used to bulk up meals. You don't really need that many carbs unless you're about to do hard work though. And they're not good sources of protein.

Most civilisations have cuisines that are adapted to the needs of a peasant. The carbs are quick energy for farm work. A modern worker's day looks more like that of a nomad. You mostly need the slow-burner stuff (protein, fat) to keep your body working, with carbs added selectively for a quick energy boost when necessary.

I try to replace carbs with other things such as carrots or bell peppers, and I do what I can to enhance the flavour and texture.

What I need to add to this is a bit of exercise, which I'll start off with a bit of swimming after work this Friday, if all goes according to plan.

Leaning heavily on digital scheduling tools such as calendar and reminder apps has been useful to me. Same goes for automated bank transfers when it comes to budget adherence.

You're not always sticking to the schedule or the budget, but if you kind of never give up on them and just accept that slip-ups happen, they start helping.
