My friend was in his 60’s when he took out a huge loan to start the dairy. It was a big build and finding a good herd with A2/A2 genetics was only possible by going multiple states away and transporting them all. It was a long time family dream that started with his grandfather.
For the first few years they could only sell directly from the dairy and most city folk weren’t interested in driving over an hour for raw milk. They had to dump a lot of the milk to their pigs at the beginning, and financially it was dicey.
When Texas changed the state laws they started to bring the raw milk to the farmers market, and slowly but surely it sold. Now they sell out every week within a few hours and the overall business is healthy.
But that might not have been the case if the law hadn’t changed.
