feld (npub1yck…ujmw) This is because of the AC-4 decoding. ATSC 1.0 uses AC-3 which is/was widely available.
I'm not sure why SiliconDust is using cloud to decode AC-4, but I have a feeling it may have to do with patents (that it was easier to license patents for the few servers, than all the apps that they provide for free, when most users won't even use the feature).
