I see, every now and then, people compare their social graph to others' and then proceed to get disappointed when they don't get the same amount of interaction/engagement/follows.
This isn't good for several reasons.
The most important being your mental health. If you're constantly comparing your amount of friends to others' amount of friends, you may be fine for awhile, but eventually they'll obviously be someone that has more friends than you.
Secondly, you are your own person. Everyone is different and has their own style, tastes, interests, life values, and experiences.
For example, I have 1k+ followers and follow back most of them. However, it's REALLY important to know:
1. I am far from normal. I have ADHD which causes lots of thoughts all the time and a strong urge to get those thoughts out in some way. Mine is here.
2. I'm disabled. I have hydracephalus since birth, am on disability, and I don't have a job. I have almost infinitely more time to just sit here on Fedi all day rambling about a bunch of different stuff.
3. Because of number 2, I am also VERY interactive with those that engage with me. If you reply to me or mention me, more than likely, I'm replying back very quickly.
4. This is more of a tip than a "personal to me" thing. If your post is discussing a specific topic, try to find multiple hashtags that could work for that topic. Like if I discuss Fedi, which I do a lot, I use Fedi, Fediverse, and ActivityPub at the very least. If my post discusses a subtopic of Fedi like a certain software, I add the hashtag for that software as well.
Don't compare yourself to others. You are you. Not me. We are different and that's okay.
Sorry for the long post, I just figured I'd do some encouragement because I always see people get discouraged when they compare themselves to others.
