A long standing criticism of “the left” goes “the left is too perfectionist, jumping on perceived intolerance, the right never would, this is bad for growth”
Part of this perception of the right depends on who you are to them. The right will happily use members of groups they demonize— but only if they performativly attack & degrade themselves, & they can’t go “too far”. Be a gay man with a husband, but don’t you dare adopt a child. And tell us again how terrible those gays are. 1/
