The wonderful, liberal idea of freedom of speech is coming up hard against the realities of what unlimited speech does to a population when faced with centralized social media. We can stop copyright infringement all day long, but stopping disinformation, harassment, hate speech, and cult-like political brainwashing is something we as a society are not allowed to touch. It's *insane*.
The EU is seeing a similar rise in right-wing extremism but hopefully they have better tools to solve it, since they don't exactly have a rigid and inflexible first amendment that was written by a group of ancient men with a third grade intellect who couldn't see past their own snoody ass slave-owning noses let alone the implications of the shitty Constitution they were writing.
