- dealing with incremental backup version chains across multiple tapes sucks.
- spending $3k on a tape system sucks.
- having to rewrite the entirety of a tape because a tape drive munched it sucks.
i can scale horizontally by just buying more relatively inexpensive 16TB external HDDs. they're cheap and simple and fast enough to peg my storage system with 3 or 4 writing in parallel.
