Sure, you will note that I did not concede that the Egyptians had a proof but just that they "knew" the theorem.
However, I'd also note that they probably had to go further, because you likely don't find a triple like 12709, 13500, 18541 by trial and error, so they must have worked out the generator function for integral Pythagorean triples (which isn't pyramid, ah, rocket science but still very very impressive for so long ago).
