I think many applicants to funded PhD positions or Postdocs do not realise how important the cover/motivation letter is. Many I see are unfocused, perfunctory, and generic. Theybeven have multiple serious language errors...correcting grammar is easier than ever (have chatgpt do it!). The motivation letter is at least as important as the CV, if not more important. Maybe no one tells them? Do you tell your supervisees? #academicchatter
