I think that making better decisions requires experience. I also think that learning the right lessons from past experiences (and un-learning any wrong lessons) can be difficult, yet it is necessary and important.
I've found that learning about psychology (e.g. cognitive biases) and mental models can be helpful. Having a good network of colleagues, mentors, and friends can help, too.
This stuff is hard, and I'm not sure if I'm good at it, but I'm trying to get better every day.
