I think you are right, recently I heard from a "libertarian" that all the oil reserves from Venezuela being on Maduro's socialist dictatorship hands is better for the Venezuelan people than if Venezuela would be under US/Western sphere of influence.
I am not a fan of the woke US politics for sure, but between relatively freedom with people being able to eat properly and a socialist dictatorship, well, it's not that hard for me to decide which one is the better choice hahah
