I have been in China since early March. The economy slowed dramatically before the tariffs began. With exports grinding to a standstill and factories laying-off hundreds of thousands people each week since, popular restaurants have no queues and luxury retail at an eerie standstill… even during notable public holidays which usually draw tons of people.
China has zero chips to play in this trade war. They will either negotiate with Trump or turn on their money printer to levels never seen before just to stabilize their economy and simulate the illusion of growth.
It really hurts to see.
This is a magical country.
I’ve never felt safer anywhere, not even Japan. I can see myself retiring here.
I hope for everyone’s sake China begins negotiations with America to establish a fair trade agreement. I want to see more Chinese tech in America, and more American goods in China. If we come to a deal, we can both win 🥹
