weirdly you cannot really, because it's not wasted, it is a byproduct of the (high entropy) energy used to mine. The heat is low entropy and cannot be used further.. same idea as the earth, we take in sunlight (high entropy radiation) and emit low entropy radiation (heat) back into space. we cannot do work with that heat anymore, work was already done that resulted in this heat. Of course you could pump *cold* water around and try to heat it into steam or something and drive a steam engine, but the cold water now functions as a low entropy source. with diminishing returns... otherwise we would be able to create perpetual motion machines
