AOSP has been gutted by GOOG. They haven't added any of their apps to it in years.
The stock gallery is pretty crap, the stock (SMS) messaging app doesn't even have a search function, and there isn't even an AOSP calendar anymore for reason I know not.
You get chromium, super basic SMS/MMS, a simple dialer, contacts, a basic file manager (not too bad, though) and a few other basics I can't recall. No calendar, no maps, no drive.
