I don’t know about anyone else, but as a mother of young children, I am constantly being hit with therapy and mental illness based accounts on social media that blame all sorts of mental illness on mothers.

The underlying message is your mother ruined your life by loving you too much, loving you not enough, having emotions, not getting you everything you wanted, etc. It’s literally navel gazing, but I can’t look away and every time I see something related to it, it makes me wonder if I’m destroying my kids’ lives by having expectations, not being extremely gentle in my wording all the time, not parenting by these gentle parenting scripts or whatever else is popular.

I think this trend is extremely damaging to the mental health of women, especially mothers. And doubly so for mothers like me who have anxiety , depression, and neurodevelopmental disorders (or some other issue).

The thing that makes it hit so hard is that it’s coming from other women.
