I revised our grade 9 math curriculum to include deltas and I think it's working well. I hope it makes calculus a bit smoother for them.
slope
m=Δy/Δx
distance
d=√[Δx²+Δy²]
point slope
mΔx=Δy
I think writing a program where calculating "xdif" and "ydif" were a step in finding the distance between two points and the slope helped.
This isn't how I learned it, but I kinda wish it was. When did you learn about "deltas" ?
