Yes, exactly correct. However certain religions do a better job at teaching and touching upon universal truths.
Christianity and the teachings of Jesus, and Buddhism and the philosophies it includes, are both incredibly powerful and are describing the same 'ultimate reality' in different ways.
But it is a completely personal journey, and most people that are religious fundamentalists don't actually understand the underlying philosophy.
