Burnout rate among physicians, especially surgeons is really high, so you're not exactly alone. When I first worked at a clinic as a scribe several years ago, the first thing the medical director told me is don't go to medical school... she was dead serious and said she wanted to get out of this profession asap. The long hours and work load just wasn't worth it. She also told me many of her colleagues felt the same way.
The clinic manager told me, "At the end of this, we will convince you not to do med school. You'll see"
He was right. After 1 year of scribing for one of the doctors there, I realized being a doctor really sucked. We had residents that rotated through the clinic and I asked them, do you like working as a doctor? Every resident except one expressed regret for entering this profession.
So now I design and develop the applications and tools doctors use to deliver Healthcare, and I've gotten into machine learning and data analytics. I absolutely love my job.
