1. Browsers are still limited in how they can interact with local files
2. We use existing libraries written in Python to read/write some formats
The solution for the first item exists, but is still limited to Chrome/ Edge.
The solution for the second item exists (Web Assembly) but is somewhat less efficient and less flexible.
