you can look at it either way, I suppose. But the way i see it, in a situation when you actually need encrypted comms and your buddie's walkie talkie is lost or stolen with your encryption key in it, you probably want an option to turn it into a brick if you can't immediately reprogram every single radio you might want to talk to ;)
