I’m holding out hope that as journalists take stock, they will see that the Fediverse already has advantages:
Referrals from monolithic social media were never that good and are getting worse. PBS left and found that there was essentially no negative impact.
People who have come here from other sites have repeatedly found that despite a much fewer number of followers here, identical posts here and elsewhere get more responses here and they tend to be of higher quality- exactly what a journalist needs.
The engagement algorithms at other sites actually punished quality and encouraged superficial quantity.
Finally, news orgs can have a fediverse presence built into their own web sites, similar to what WordPress did. I think they have not yet seen the tremendous advantage that would provide over monolithic sites.
