I do think about that every now and then. Apparently it has been renamed "mpox." CNN coverage from this year is as follows:
Jan 31 - Mpox is almost gone in the US, leaving lessons and mysteries in its wake.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/31/health/mpox-public-health-emergency-lessons/index.htmlThe interesting thing about this article is that it finally acknowledges the intentional misreporting. A friend got really mad at me for saying that if she wasn't a male planning on going to a gay orgy then she probably had nothing to worry about. Apparently this made me a homophobe promoting a "stigma." She specifically cited a young boy who got monkeypox who I think also had gay male parents so saying that this was an STI would make "the Christians" accuse this couple of molesting their kid. To prevent that, the narrative - in her words - needed to remain something along the lines of "he got monkeypox while rolling on the rug at his daycare center." Meanwhile, she was freaking out about touching clothes at the mall because they might have monkeypox on them.
Feb 22 - CDC advisors vote in favor of using mpox vaccine in future outbreaks.
Apr 13 - Almost 90% of mpox-related deaths were in Black men, and nearly all had weakened immune systems, CDC reports.
May 11 - WHO says mpox is no longer a global health emergency.
Four days later....
May 15 - CDC warns about potential risk of US mpox resurgence this summer.
And now it is August. Summer has pretty much happened. So I guess the males spent it spreading your more typical infections and will now overuse antibiotics as a response.
