To summarize, by announcing that they will vote Blue no matter who, D voters rob themselves of absolutely all power, game theoretically. The DNC gains nothing by giving them anything; they just have to be "not the Republicans" and they will win half the time.
Once you know this, so many otherwise inexplicable things become clear. Roe v. Wade was never codified into law, so it would be an issue each election.
