For years, decades even, we've been seeing people say they didn't understand how Hitler came to power. But that usually just tells me that person came from a functional family of origin and expects people are reasonable.
If you came from an abusive hierarchical FOO then you already know how most people in town will treat that abuser like a pillar of the community EVEN IF they know what's happening to the family.
