Societal maturity follows a similar path to individual maturity.
Censorship stunts the learning process.
I see the argument for protecting small kids from harsh reality or lies. That same argument cannot be used for adults.
At a certain age you have to teach kids that people lie. That politicians, advertisers, historians, salesmen, scientists, journalists and even AIs lie.
You have to give them the tools to discern truth from lies, wherever possible and to keep a healthy scepticism in general.
Importantly let's not forget that censors are the biggest liars of all. They primarily censor anyone exposing their lies.
