Also, in 2012 Ron Paul won the most delegates in Iowa, but it took them months to admit it after the fact, and declaring Romney the winner surely impacts New Hampshire afterwards, all the way downstream.
Primary season is all about momentum, and announcing the wrong winner is totally unacceptable. It wasn’t transparent and public, it was a cluster and the media ran with their preferred outcome.
There was barely an asterisk or correction in any media after the fact. Wikipedia doesn’t even mention it (shocker) 🙄
