When it is well managed, a finished pile of compost has a much higher Carbon ratio than Nitrogen.

Compost works wonderfully for the soil because the microbiology in our soil eats that carbon and turns it into nutrients for the plants.

For too long we have been focused on giving the plants the nutrients they need, the famous NPK... But this is why our tomatoes don't taste good anymore because we can't produce the other nutrients that the plants need.

For that, we need to focus on feeding carbon to the life in the topsoil. They are our helpers for the garden and we need to stop destroying them.
