If you want a proper carb loading, the amount to eat is actually quite much (10 g/kg/d). That can be hard to achieve, but it also means that you can eat candies or other sweet stuff with a good conscience.

But the most important things during the race week are to make sure that you eat enough so that you are not hungry, get enough sleep and avoid long runs.
