Ok short version: I once heard a Buddhist monk say, “you definitely exist. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that you are real.” We are chronically deceived ‘by our own identity’ because every moment we buy into the delusion of viewing reality FROM the point of view of IDENTITY. This identity then posits labels, ideas, concepts, etc. upon a reality which is actually fundamentally void of labels. It is our own mind that creates the ‘ideas’ we perceive, which then feed back upon our perception to reinforce the idea of an identity perceiving reality. We are caught in an endless feedback loop. The question is not ‘how can’ it is, ‘how IS a human being deceived’.
