My kid needed an hour or two of lessons from a biking school. One thing the instructor said is that training wheels actually teach leaning in the wrong direction, and that it has to be unlearned. (We tried a balance bike, but she didn't like it.) Not entirely sure I'm convinced, but it was interesting to consider.
I find it fascinating how different people's experiences go with taking off the training wheels. So much variation.
