The business challenge is real and as far as I can tell there are incredible money being spend on solving this by SaaS and on-prem tools in B2B sector as well as enterprise-level and government. While open-source is not a bad word anymore I would give this a chance. As an example you can take an extreme - a mainframe using an open-source SW as a mid-layer between the actuall HW mainframe and any APIs or cloud apps:
